POH Children’s Clinic
Nearly 10,000 children in Oakland County are without health care coverage. For many of our youth, the POH Children’s Clinic is their only resource for much needed medical attention.
Opened in 1995 and the only one of its kind in the county, the POH Children’s Clinic provides free health care services to more than 2,500 patients each year. Children from birth through 18 years of age receive urgent and preventative health care services, including wellness exams, immunizations and specialty care.
Over the past 13 years, we have been able to reduce the number of emergency room visits and significantly raise the rate of immunized children in our community. Because of this, the Children’s Clinic has received the Blue Cross Blue Shield Sapphire Award and the Michigan Department of Community Health Recognition Award for improving the health status and well-being of children.
We pride ourselves on treating all children with compassion and respect, while delivering excellent care regardless of their ability to pay. Although the Clinic is a United Way Partner and receives some grant funding, POH Regional Medical Center is still the primary resource for supporting these free services.
Your continued support is so crucial to the health and well-being of our community’s children – the faces of the future.
Family Fit Camp
In 2007, the POH Children’s Clinic partnered with Medical Weight Loss Clinic to host Family Fit Camp. The two-day camp taught obese children, or children lacking enough physical activity, how to have fun while exercising. The program also taught parents how to help the whole family eat healthier.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, last year 10 families were able to attend the camp free of charge. Choosing from a range of adventurous and entertaining activities, campers hiked and swam their way to a healthier lifestyle!
Hearts of the Future
The 8th Annual Hearts of the Future event was held on February 7, 2008, at the Marriott Pontiac at Centerpoint hotel. Nearly 100 attendees participated in a lovely dinner and exciting silent auction. Patricia Parker, a member of the Children’s Clinic Advisory Council, served as Mistress of Ceremonies.
Gifts of gratis were presented to Dr. Tressa Gardner and William Offutt for their dedication, support and commitment to the POH Children’s Clinic. Net proceeds from the event totaled nearly $15,000, thanks to our generous supporters.
